Anything fails. There are no perfect designs out there. And remanufactured parts fail more than new because the manufacturer is always trying to balance reliability with the re-use of old parts to save cost. Reman is in constant adjustment based on the latest trends of field returns.
The guy at the parts store either isn't paying attention to returns at his store, doesn't have view of the bigger picture of all returns across all the stores, or has been working there for less than a month. You can be GUARANTEED that there have been returns of that same alternator, despite how good the product may be. I'm not saying that absolutely could not have a problem with the truck. But I am saying that the parts guy has no clue what he's talking about. And the issue is that he might be standing between you and the problem being solved.
