This is my own stupidity coming back to bite me in the @$$. This all started on Good Friday, April 2nd. It is a floating holiday at work, so I had the day off. I sent the following PM to one of the senior techs at DiabloSport on Saturday.
"I am prepping my Excursion for our lovely smog checks in California beginning this year. Friday, I removed my DP Tuner and modified the case for the PCM so that I don't have to go under the hood to remove it any more. Since I had it out, I started up and drove around a little in stock. Then, I decided to try the new tunes from my Predator. (I exchanged my old one for a newer one some months ago.) I tried loading the 110hp tune, and the truck wouldn't start. I set it back to stock; still no start. Read trouble codes, and got P1260. I'm able to drive the truck by loading a tune and modifying the alarm system to off, but this is not the answer. Why will the tool not restore the original back-up without the PATS showing a problem?"
I've e-mailed Jody & Diane to see if my DP Tuner has the PATS info, but I really doubt it... I was going to post in the 7.3 forum, but I think this has more relevance to the Excursions.
More than likely when you loaded the new Predator tune the PATS information was not saved. This is an issue with the tuner. Somehow it erased the PATS information from the PCM and it should not have. Luckily you have the ability to set PATS = 0 or something like that to disable the system and start the truck. Right now you are really stuck. If the PATS data in the PCM is really erased then a key learn procedure is the only way to get it back. You need two PATS keys and either the Ford IDS dealer tool or a J2534 box and a subscription to the Pass-Thru programing via the Motorcraft website:

Well, I have the 2 PATS keys. I think I'm going to be stuck paying the dealer ~$100.00 to reset the PATS....
BTW, running the Predator 110hp tune pales in comparison to the DP Tuner 80e!! With the 80e, acceleration off the line is quicker, the power seems more linear. With the Predator, power seems to come on ~2500 rpm...
When you program these trucks via the PCM, the "theft" light will flash like crazy during the entire process. With the koeo, wait until it starts flashing slowly, like once every now and again...turn the key off then try starting.

So, if I am interpreting what you are saying correctly, I should restore the original back-up, turn the key on and wait until the theft light flashes slowly, and then try starting.
Yep, this should work either programmed or stock, but in your situation it I'd put it back to stock and then try the procedure.
Need to make my last post a little clearer: When you use an aftermarket programmer, the theft light will flash like crazy, then slowly blink after 2-3 minutes. First let your predator finish what it's doing, leave the key on while the light is still flashing, when the theft light is flashing slowly, turn the key off, unplug your predator, and try starting.

I'm able to disable (sounds weird) the PATS loading a tune from the Predator; I will go out in a few and restore the stock and try this.

Well, I gave it a shot, and no luck.
I waited until the rapid flashing ended, then the theft flashing had a sequence: flash once; 3 second delay; then 6 flashes in rapid succesion; pause and repeat.
Sorry, I can't add anything to help, but you have me curious: Why are you using a flash tuner instead of Jody's F5 chip?
Stewart
I pulled the F5 to modify my PCM case, so I can plug-in and remove the chip without removing the PCM. Stupid smog test!!
Some months ago, someone on the DS forum wanted to trade his newer Predator for an older model. I made the swap, and it has been riding around with me for all that time.
So, just for S & Gs, while I had the F5 off, I thought (or did I think?!) to try out their "New and Improved" tunes. And, as a general rule, things that say "New & Improved" are usually neither....
So, if you need a good laugh, follow their responses in the link I posted above....
Thanks for the suggestion! I had to register for the forum to see the link, and I didn't have any luck following the 1st reset. I'll have to wait until I get home this afternoon to try the battery disconnect.
also I am not familiar with your tuner but if it allows you to set the PATS on or off, then you need to use the binary o f"1" to turn off the PATS, "0" to turn on the PATS system, The PCM sees the command as "Disable PATS" so "1" is telling it to enable the disable function, Bass Ackwards but thats the way it works

The Predator is similar to SuperChips MicroMax tuners; a flash tuner that writes to the PCM thru the OBD port. No Binary code available, just 3 tunes, and adjustable parameters (shift pressure, shift points, alarm system thank God!!, etc.). Reads and clears DTCs, and I'm becoming more convinced that is about all it is good for!! But to be fair, lots of people have them, and judging from the forum, most are happy with them. Ignorance is bliss???
