I did something kinda stupid.

I pulled all my pistons and did not notice which way they came out.

Which way should the arrow shaped notch face?

The depression in the piston goes up.

Did you number which one from which hole?

Up?
You mean pointing towards the front?

Yes, I kept track of every part so I can put it back in the same spot.

If they have an arrow it should point to the front( the end with the water pump) lol
Go by the depression like Dave said and the arrow should be point forward.
I have the heads off of a 7.3 and don't recall if they have arrows or not.

OK turkey, you made me drive down to the shop to look. lol
Mine has no arrows just two round depressions that resemble valve reliefs, but that is not what they are. It also has a funny looking depression in between them with the top rounded sloping almpst to a point on the down hill side. The depressions go up, north towards the valley pan. lol

Yes, I know that. I can figure up from down on my own.

Does the notched side face the front or back of the engine?

The only thing on these that could be compared to an arrow is between the two round depressions and pointing down(south). lol

On mine its off set to one side of the piston. It can go facing the front or the back.
