Battery Light

Hi all, I have a friend with a '98 Exp. He was recently stranded on the side of the road when his battery went dead. No warning, no lights, nothing - the thing just died. He replaced the alternator, charged the battery and all has been fine for a couple of weeks. Now his battery light is on with no other sign of trouble. A local shop checked the battery and charging system and said everything looks good. Any idea what would cause the battery light to come on when the charge is showing 14.5 volts? Seems to me a bad diode might cause this?? Thanks!

It could be a bad battery connection or the negative to body and engine block connections.
