Is there an external voltage regulator on my 94 F-250 5.8? I have changed the alternator 4 times in the last 2 years for low voltage. The new one seams to charge good for a week or so after i change it then its back to acting wierd. If the truck sits and idles with the lights on the volt guage dropes almost all the way down. but as soon as i turn the lights of its fine. I had the batt checked and it was fine. Its old but it still tested good. Is there something in the lights that is causing this? I still haven't put the electric fans back on yet or tried to fugure out why the ac compressor dosent work. I was hit by the flue pretty good for the last 2 weeks. it crushed me pretty good this time.
Your VR is internal - look for high resistance between the battery & alt output post, like at the starter relay, and make sure the ALT light in the dash is good.
You probably need to clean all your grounding points in addition to all the battery cable connection(both ends). Look for flat braided cables(more than one) going from between the engine and the frame.
clean to bright metal. Also there are a couple of ground junctions in the engine compartment where more than a few grounds come together. Clean them all to BRIGHT METAL! Coat with Di-electric grease.
Pull the firewall thru connector apart and look for corrosion there. Clean all contacts, coat with di-electric grease and close back up. Also the computer connections on the driver side of the firewall.
