Speaker options

Looking to replace the speakers in the Ex but I keep getting told not a whole lot fit in the front doors. Was wondering what you guys have used for aftermarket speakers

I just installed a set of 6 Blaupunkt Velocity series Vx573's in my Ex. They're a 3-way design, handle a load of power, and have got excellent sound quality.

you have the option of a 5x7/6x8 speaker or you can use a 6.5/6.75 round speaker with an adapter.....

i was told that you can fit a 6x9 in the front with slight modifications, but you'll have to trim the existing hole to fit the basket and then you're real close to the window guide.... you might be able to fit them with a spacer adapter, but not in the oem hole.

i put 4 JVC 6.5's in the doors, and a pair of polk 6x9's in a small box behind the 2nd row seat (FOR NOW)powered by a aftermarket head unit. i got the JVC's for cheap that's why i used them at that time, and made my own adapters. now when i do it again, i'll have a good set of polk/kicker components!

I would like to add some subs to the rear doors. They look like they would fit right in.

You can do it,but there is some cutting and fabrication to do if you're gonna do that. I'm going to be building a small enclosure for behind the 2nd row seats that'll have some Kicker CVT shallow subs in it. I just finished installing a pair of amps under the 2nd row seats and as soon as the carpet I have ordered shows up-I'll finish the box and get it all installed.

I replaced all 6 speakers with infinities. They sound much better, but aren't firing like they want to because I just have them hooked up to the sissy factory head unit. I plan on putting in an amp to power all 6 (piggy-back the back 4), utilizing a navoro line-input adaptor. I want to keep the Ford HU for security reasons and the simplicity of the theater set up! Just gotta make time to do it.

That's pretty much what I just did.
I've gotta find another line input adapter-I've got noise on the right front input on the low-levels,and I've traced it back to the line input adapter's circuitry on that single channel.
I'm using a Blaupunkt PCA465 for the 6 door speakers and a PCA1350 for the subs(when I finish them). They're wired with #4 power back to distribution blocks with #8 feeding the amps, and #16 from the amps to the speakers. The subs are going to be wired with #12 and setup right now so the amp sees a 4 ohm load. If the 2 Kicker CVT65 subs aren't enough, then I'm making my enclosure large enough that I can add another pair and rewire them so the amp sees a 2 ohm load with 4 of them installed.
I'm not after brain-oozing bass, just a solid clear sound with clarity. The OEM head unit and speakers in the Navigator we recently sold were almost perfect, and this system so far is right there if not just slightly better in terms of sound quality. As much as I don't want to-I might end up with an aftermarket head unit later, but it won't be one of those "starship enterprise bling-boxes" that all the kiddos want in their cars-it'll be a sedate, boring looking headunit like the Clarion CX609 that I can match the dash illumination/coloring with.

I put the Pioneer Avic D3 in my Ex, has a nice clean look and you can change the button and screen color to match your dash, not to mention it doesn't look like anything special when it's off. It also has the bluetooth setup for my phone (no goofy starfleet earpiece), Built in Sirius tuner and GPS Navigation

That solid black screen screams steal me when you're vehicle is parked and the power is off.
I'm not gonna touch anything like that.

I just put the reference series in my truck, front and back (stock in the way back) and they bolted right in. Mine were the 6x8 REF6832's. Sound great, but need a new head unit and amp to finish the job...

It really looks almost like a stock style unit, been in for almost two years now. My pioneer premier only made it two weeks. Hopefully getting a viper setup with the pager keychain within the next couple of weeks though. I think the fitment guides are a little overly cautious cause damn near everyone I check comes up with almost nothing for the front doors

The Vx573's that I used have a listed top mount depth of 2-9/16",and they almost touch the window track with the magnet structure. So, I would say that any speaker that has a top mount depth of that or less would fit fine.

I installed some 4 way pioneers because I like a lot of highs and had a local shop make a sub box for under the 2nd row. they mounted it to the seat bars so I slides back and forth with the seat for easy entry. they installed the amp on the small seat passenger side on a board also so it slides and the kids wont step on ti getting in and out. Also added a control for thje output of thebass low on the drivers side of the center console so depending what I am listening to I can add extra bass. They used a thin Pioneer 8" sub that makes the brothers look witha 250 w amp. Factory radio is still in use becasue I didnt want to give up the video or steering wheel controls. really, to look at it, you would never know it was modified but once you hear it...wow!
