Don't be afraid of pulling the interior out,I've done it three times now,it's a cakewalk once you get used to it.
unless you have slider locks. then you'd rather kill yourself than pull your door panels off. threading the lock bars into the sliders will make you invent new cuss words

I dunno. The sliders on my truck have never been much of an issue. Of course, having the sliders to actually mess with might be a pain.
I wonder if the assembly line had as many problems putting them together as the rest of the real, and if so, was that why Ford dropped them so quickly?
ha! i'm glad my pain brought you guys some humor...when you've got the slider locks and the lock switches that go with them you have to put your door panel through a crazy twist-angle-turn-slide-loop movement like some kind of door panel yoga...
i swear if i have to take them off again i'm reconfiguring for pull up locks like shaun did...
Hmm,I never had a problem with my slide locks.Might be because I never bothered to put them on.The few times I did,I found it was easier to pop them out with the metal brace and all, then put on the door panel making sure you can reach the lock rod,and then pull the lock rod through the hole as far as you can, twist the slide lock on the rod and push the assembly back into the door panel.
But,my top pull locks are sooooo much better.
One thing about that swap though, make sure you get the latching mechanisms from the donor truck, because the mechanisms for slider trucks is different than the one for top pull trucks. You can use the 80-81 mechanisms, but you'll have to adjust the rod,and the lock works backwards,so you have to pull the **** up to lock the door and push down to unlock.
My all red truck will be red/white tu-tone in the near future. Of course, it's also going from 2wd to 4wd.
I might convert my truck to the top style, but leave the stock latches. It would be humorous to see the look on someone's face when ya reach over and push the **** down so they can get in.........
