My 06 would. barely run or move.No codes either. At a high idle I disconnected the driver side injectors and basicly the left side of the engine showed no difference with them plugged in or not.I suspected a plugged left converter.I hooked up a backpressure tester in the O2 sensor hole before the cat and at anything over idle it pinned the guage.I then unhooked the left pipe from the exhaust manifold and moved it away enough that the left bank could breathe. The truck runs ok with the open exhaust confirming that the left cat is plugged. My truck has 44,000 miles on it.Will Ford cover this under the emission warranty? Will they charge me for testing or diagnosis? In order to get it to the dealer I will have to have it towed or drive it with the open pipe.Any input would be appreciated.Thanks.
You can find reference to this warranty in many other spots as well, including the owner's manual.
That's the good news.
Now, make sure you haven't fooled with anything to the point where they can say it's your fault.
AND, keep your fingers crossed that Ford can put their hands on a cat for you. For some reason, '05 Escapes have cat issues and those were badly back ordered for some time, according to posts here. Something about a factory closure or supplier change.
Good luck with it.
BTW, as for taking it off, if you don't have emissions testing, you probably will soon, so try to stick with the OEM set up.
Ford dealer called and said they will not replace the cats. They said the cats were done once before with the previous owner of the truck under the emissions warranty and
Ford will not do it again for free.Plus he said the cats were on national backorder(I wonder why!).So I am going to pick up the truck and have some aftermarket cats welded in at my buddy's muffler shop. Then I will have to figure out what on this truck is killing the cats.Stay tuned for further updates.
Up to you, but I would press them. The warranty is a Federal law, and I don't have a copy of it, but the EPA site says nothing about a "one time" replacement. These cats should still be covered imo.
Ford "policy" can't override a Federal motor vehicle warranty law. Sounds to me like Ford knows they CAN'T get the cats, and is doing anything to get you out of their shop and push the problem back on the owners.
Ford is in a good spot right now in the market. It would be a shame to see this kind of thing undermine their position. More like GM and Toyota BS imo.
