My cousin's got a 1992 f250 with a 7.3 nonturbo manual shift.
We've worked through the bugs on it got it going.
He has one problem left on it that's got us puzzled. I know it's got to be something simple but we can't find out what it is.
After he runs it awhile till it gets good and warm then shuts it off. If he goes back to it while its still warm, it won't start..unless he roll starts it down a hill for about 3 feet then it'll start right up. The batteries are a couple months old and the wires are clean, tight, and coated with white grease to prevent corrosion. The starter kicks over quickly hot or cold.
Could someone please tell me whats causing this? Or has anyone had the same problem?
I have heard of a worn out injection pump causing this. I am trying to think of a thicker fuel you could put in the fuel filter when it won't start, to see if that's the problem. You could take the filter off, pour the diesel out, and fill it with something like a quart of kerosene, new motor oil or something like that.
I second the ip idea. From what I have read on here that sounds right. You could try filling the filter with the old type f trans fluid. If nothing else it will help clean things out.
also are you sure its cranking fast becuase mine was cranking fast compaired to a gas engine but my starter syliniod was going bad and when it died the other day and would not turn over i changed the syliniod and now it cranks crazy fast starts fast even when hot
