High Boy Steering Conversion Kit
I did the 78/79 swap. It was fairly easy and quite inexpensive if you are frugal. Around $300 all in. (These are ballpark 2022 prices and I got lucky at the JY)
The list of parts:
1977.5-1979 4 bolt 4x4 Steering box (F250/F350) ($50) (Grab the bolts they are not cheap!)
1977.5-1979 Pittman arm for the same year/vehicle (often attached to box) (Included with my junkyard box)
1977.5-1979 Solid drag link ($80)
1977.5-1979 Power steering pressure hose (Several are offered for 4x4, get the shorter one $(20)
1977.5-1979 Return hose barb (short metal section) ($10)
One frame boxing/bushing kit for the "78-79" upgrade kit--eBay and several sources have this. However if you are a fabricator, it is just 3/16" steel plate and 7/8 or so...heavy DOM tubing ($100)
You will have to shorten your existing steering wheel shaft or buy an adjustable, I cut and carefully rewelded.
Measure thrice, cut once or several times, I am not a good fabricator so I made nibbles until it was right, its harder to put back metal than to take away excess.
You DO NOT have to notch radiator/ fan shroud/ or rad support! Located the steering box farther back and be very accurate in your measurements.
Make sure your pitman arm swing will clear the bottom of the frame, all this requires patience and methodically test rigging.
