So I just installed my new Rancho RS9000XL's this afternoon. What a breeze on this truck. No wheel removal, no jacking - thanks to the tech area for the install procedure! I have one issue however. The last shock I opened to install (front passenger), did not decompress when unlocked (ranchos come compressed and one turn of the rod unlocks them). I can pull it out to full extension, and it takes decent pressure to decompress, but again it will not extend on its own. It feels like it is hung up on something inside, but may just be a bad shock? Has anyone had this problem? My next move is to email the company I bought them from, but thought I would throw it out there to see if anyone has experienced this before.
Did you try and turn the shaft some more to see if that makes a difference? If not, then I would say you have a bad shock. You will not have any rebound.

Yes, turned it around a few rotations, a few times. This was the only one of the four that did not respond. I put it on the truck (it was the last one I opened) in the hopes that something was grabbing onto the post. Funny thing is, I dialed them to 5, took a drive and could not tell if that one was responding, then turned it to 9 and it did feel stiffer on that side? Weird, but I am still going to get a new one in to replace it unless Rancho can tell me that this shock is a good one.
I just put on some Rancho 9000s and am still dissappointed with the results. I did not find any instruction on the box or inside, so I did not know to rotate the rod before installation. That was probably 500 miles ago. Do you think it is too late to do it right? I have chanaged the adjustment from 1 to 9 looking for the right feel.

Rotating the shock rod is only to release the lock and extend it from its "packaging mode". If you installed the shocks then the rods must have been extended. You are fine.
I run Bilstein's on mine and love them. IMO, Rancho is more about the name than anything.

How is the ride on the Bilstein's? I debated between the two but from what I was reading the Bilstein's had a stiffer ride? I went with the ranchos for the adjustable ride since this is my daily driver. I need to get that broken one replaced and then I will see if I made the right choice. I do think the red covers are kind of cheap and they fit on there kind of half a**.
