I am trying to install a new Rancho RS5000 steering stabilizer on my SD, but I'm running into a few problems...
First, I called summitracing and gave them my truck's specs, and they sent me part # 5405. After receiving the part, and comparing it to the OE, I realized it wasn't even close.. I checked on Rancho's website, and the #5405 shows to be for a '77-'79 model SD...
I called them back, and they looked it up again, and said I needed the #5406, which matched with what the Rancho installation guide said.
When I tried to install it this past weekend, I noticed that the Rancho shock housing is approx. 5 inches longer than the original. When I called Rancho, they stated that I need the installation kit to install it.
My question is this; Has anyone installed this particular stabilizer on a '99-'02 SD w/ 4WD? If so, did you use the installation kit, or were you just able to move the bracket down the tie rod to compensate for the longer shock?
(By the way, the kit costs $44 from summitracing, and the stabilizer only cost $36.50....go figure...)
I installed one on mine, but it didn't come with one from the factory and that is the part # I used.
It is longer than the factory one and have heard that people have used it, by moving the bracket on the tie rod out some. I know on the kit it said to mount the bracket with half of the shock extended, so I fully extended the shock, measured, pushed half back in and put the bracket on the tie rod so that it would bolt up at this length.
I am interested in installing the Rancho RS5000 steering stablizer on my 03 F350. But was wondering if someone could tell me if Ford makes all their SuperDuties with OE mounts regardless if they install the OEM steering stablizer or not. My 03 F350 wasn't the off-road edition, so it didn't come with an OEM steering stablizer, but if they produced every SD with an OE mounts, then I wouldn't need to purchase the installation kit, just the stabilizer. Thanks in advance for the help

If it didn't come with one you need the kit. All the trucks have the bracket by the left front wheel to attach one end of the shock but you need to get the bracket that attaches itself to the tie rod in order to mount the other side. It's not much more for the bracket and the kit only took me about 10-15 min to install. All it is is 2 bolts and 2 u-bolts.
Thanks DCSpecial. Am confused on the "have the bracket by the left front wheel". I thought the stabilizer attached from the right front to the tie rod according to all the pictures that I have seen on web dealing with the Rancho installation. Am I confused here? Again, thanks for your help
depends on the way you are looking at it... If you are looking at the stabilizer from the front of the truck, it is attached to the left wheel...
More specifically, the passenger front... The bracket should be there, but you will have to order the kit for the bracket to mount to the tie rod... It is $44 at summit racing...

Yeah, sorry for the confusion, I was thinking about how I was looking at it when I did the install. Passenger Wheel side is where the bracket is.
