So here are my build plans, I'm more into sport trucks than off-road so that's the route I'm going.
First I'll Do suspension, Planning to drop the front about 1-2 inches and the rear by about 4 to level it out as the rear sits about 2 inches higher than the rear currently:
As far as engine, I'm gonna go the route of the SVO Mustang, rebuild the engine, Already got a master rebuild kit setup for me racing cam bearings, forged wiseco pistons, thicker headgasket, the works, and then turbo it, my buddy has an 08 Subie WRX and this summer he's putting in a different turbo and he says I can have his stock one so I gotta do the oil lines myself, no biggie.
And finally I'll paint it, BMW M3 Laguna Seca Blue with two white Rally Stripes and a line-x or rhino spray in bed liner.
I've only done a rough estimate but I think I'm looking at about 3 grand, I can do most of the work myself, and I have a buddy with a hookup at a machine shop.
And then eventually I'll put in a new headliner as mine is falling off and replace the horribly stained carpet, and some nice sport buckets.
Oh hey, and how do I know what rear end gear ratio I have? I know I have L/S, found that out when I got stuck in mud... haha
haha, na, that one is sitting for now, It NEEDS a rebuild, I can actually catch my finger not just a nail on the ridge at the top of the cylinder, plus it gets 12 mpg and on a 90 mile round trip everyday that just kills ya...
nope, the slick is due for an engine rebuild and paint and then enjoyed on the weekends and maybe taken to shows. It's a good truck and I loved driving it, it just wasn't a very economical truck to use as a daily, not just for mileage but also for safety and wear/tear on a vintage vehicle.
Funny, in the slick I turned heads because it's a cool old truck, in the ranger I turn heads because it looks so bad with all the paint flaking off! haha
Man thats expensive too.I just broke the gear stick in my 84,and headed up to the junkyard to get a new one and found that it was only 7 bucks.Might be pointless in the rebuild your looking at,but It made a world of difference in my truck. Before the new stick,I would have some trouble locating gears and it would feel sloppy too,but this new one seems to do the trick and at the price cannot be beat.
Possibly throw in a t-5 tranny with a stage three clutch? found one out of n 83 mustang gt with a 2.3 locally, good price too, just need to get this new job!!!
