If your tranny cost anything like mine did, Jer's Q was right on:
The most important question is: Did you break in the transmission BEFORE towing that pile of wheels?? You shouldn't be towing at 20 miles!!
I'd hope if something was wrong, it would show during the break-in period rather than the time when your depending on it. Sounds like it maybe time to get a second "professional" opinion, go back and sue (yeah - sometimes it's needed) for someone else's cost to rebuild it again.
I appreciate all the input! The truck does have 4:11 gears in the rearend, and just to clarify one point, we were not going 20 mph up the hill we were actually doing about 55mph and the tranny slowed us down to about 20 before it blew. We had put over 500 miles on the truck before we used it but the mechanic assured us a "break in" period was not necessary, and if anything happened he would be responsible, the only problem now is he is checking averything to see what would have caused this!
oh yeah, almost forgot, the motor was running hot!
come to find out the carburetor had filled with boiling transmission fluid,
what ?
