i have tan interior, but would like black interior. is there some type of special type oaint or somethign to paint the door panels, dash, interior pieces etc;, where can i buy it and is it expensive. is it a simple task to do
SEM Color Coat is the product to use. Last time I used it I believe it was around $11 per can...standard sized spray bomb. I found it at a local auto body supply store, but it's available on the web. Great product, goes on easily, wears like iron.
SEM is highly praised by all that have used it.I haven't personally used it,but I haven't heard anything bad about it.
Also,If you want it to adhere and look right, make sure you prep all the panels first. And I wouldn't go for a gloss black.Original Black interiors were more of a semi-gloss black. If you want pics, look through my gallery.
You can use pretty much any paint and they have what I call flatteners for paint so it makes the paint not so glossy. I think they have matte type clear coats as well, but I despise clear coats.
yeah, your interior is exacxtly how i want mine to look. how do i "prep" the panels. please keep in mind that i've never did any of this type of stuff to a vehicle before

Basically, prep means to prepare the panels so that the paint has a good surface to adhere to.So,sand the rough spots if you have any,try to get the scratches out,and make sure you clean them real good.
yeah, they're pretty rough on the top of the panels,by the window. they have that almost like a grain type feel to it.kinda like shavings or something.always sticks to your arms come summer time when you get all sweaty and stuff
I am currently in the process of restoring my door panels. Both top surfaces have bad Sun acne which I'm sanding out to the flat surface. The vertical surface has acne as well, but I have no intention of attempting to sand those surfaces smooth. The ABS plastic panel is an oil-based product so a soap/water cleaning is a must both before sanding and before applying any surface spray. I am also using SEM brand. Both their adhesion promoter and paint. Luckily, I found the stuff I need locally. The brand has their own soap, but I couldn't find it locally so I'm use liquid Lava and a good stiff brush. I'll follow that, once the panels are completely dry with a acetone wipe-down, then proceed with the surface spraying.
I also intend to deal with my dash-top in some form/fashion. I bought an old dash for experimental purposes($10). Look in this forum for 'girlwithatruck' (Em..her name). She has photos and descriptions of what she accomplished and the 'how' of it.
I intended to add, but forgot: look on the semproducts site. at the bottom right there are two articles, RAB2/RAP1 to read.
