Glad I'm not the only one that had that problem. Most of the goodies in the world have to imported to canada it seems. All our "goodies" are overpriced crap or have been shipped somewhere else. $10 glow plugs, Engine rebuild kits that don't cost $3000 each, Decent injector pump service, Lithium batteries, Brushless motors, etc. All of them have to come from somewhere other than canada.
Generally the canada/USA border is the worst and Its not unusual for me to wait 2 friggin weeks for something to clear customs. The DC/DC converter for my electric car was like that. Maybe they thought it was a bomb or something.
So far I've ordered parts from China, the States, Australia, and Europe. By far wait times are the longest when goods get delivered from the states. Its no falt of american shipping companies because they get it to the border really fast usually. Its the customs agency that takes forever! However some shippers like UPS had a nasty habit of tacking on brokerage fees at the border for calculating sales taxes to canadian customers. I've had some that were more than the total value of the parcel!
It seems to be getting better since I heard of canadians trying to boycott or even file a class action lawsuit against UPS. Some canadian suppliers are also begining to get their chit together and bring pricing down......some are....
There seems to be a different setup for recieving air mail from the states though, because that gets cleared very quickly. I had to order some IGBT drivers and later some diodes from Digikey and those arrived very quickly even though they came from Minnesota.
