haha. no. i was headed over vale pass in the rockies, on I-70 with a 40 foot trailer and 10,000 lbs. my trailer brake controller was not workin, and in my haste, i used 4th gear instead of third... i would get up to 80 or 85, and shut it back down to 70, then repeat. it was by and act of God that i didnt run through a truck that stopped short in front of me at an intersection on the exit. when the whole kit and kaboodle finally got shut down, smoke started pourin out of my wheel wells. i had to replace the rotors and calipers after that...
nope.. mine happend cuz of the calipers going bad... did a brake job and now the calipers wont let go... getting to be more of a common problem lately on vehicles... people are getting their brakes done... and get down the street and the calipers seize up on them...
when mine happened i was doing 70 on the highway... trying to go on a trip... (hence why i did the brakes) got 20 mins out and started hearing a noise... in trying to get to the side of the road i felt a vibration... once on the side of the road i got a smell (cooking brakes.. but didnt know what the problem was yet)... drove it home via city streets cuz i didnt want to drive it at highway speeds and tear it up... noticing the whole time i had to keep my foot on the pedal to keep speed.. got home and i could just feel the heat coming off the brakes when i walked by the wheels...
ended up canceling my trip because of it...

first time ive ever had it happen to me... but from what ive been hearing my situation is happening more and more on the newer vehicles when people do their first brake jobs...
i'm doing really good! i just got off work.....LOL
i think the shops that do brake jobs are starting to skimp on what they offer in the job and are ignoring putting anti-seize on the pins. just a thought but that's the only thing i can think of why calipers would be failing that soon!
well i had to do it to mine cause i totally toasted everything. the rubber boots were melted off, the brake pads were white and crystallized, the right front rotor was cracked in two places... when i stopped to let em cool off, id guess the the very outer edge of my wheel rim was 140 degrees plus. it wasnt enough to burn my hand, but it was enough to be uncomfortable. i almost burned my hand on the hubs, front and rear. the weird part: after the rears cooled down, they were in good condition. didnt have to replace anything back there, not even the shoes!
