Well from what it looks like, the newer models 03 and up, you have to remove the front bumper for the install. I didnt have to do this with my 00 but from what I can tell, I have to with my 04.
I installed 1 on my 2012, I didn't have to take off the bumper.
I installed a Reese, 4 bolts into the frame, I took off the air dam so I can get good measurements on it and make a nice clean cut out.
I just installed a CURT Trailer Hitch #31008 on my 2008 F350 it fits right below the front bumper had to cut air dam to get it in but didn't loose any clearance. Now if air dam was gone would loose about two inches of clearance in front.
That's the thing... the air dam on the 4x2s is shorter than on the 4x4s. Combine that with the number of times I've scraped the air dam, and I really don't want a hitch down there.
Or have a welding shop add a tab to a stock receiver tube and swap for the tow hook. Problem solved. We've been doing this since 2003 with great success. Picture earlier in this thread
A/0, that was solved when Ford moved the fog lights out in 2008. Front hitches no longer interfere with fog lights as the fog lights are outside of the frame.
pb, having a hitch off center makes it awfully difficult to maneuver a wagon trailer.
I bought a hitch extension and welded a piece of plate to it with a gusset for support. Then drilled the plate to match the holes in the tow hook mount. This assembly has been installed on the last few superduty's.

Do you think it would hold up to the truck it attached to if it weighs 9500 lb and I'm using a 12000 lb winch recently had to pull my truck out with a winch
Depends how you rig it. I would use a ****** block and tie off on the tow hook and some hard point straight ahead. You aren't pulling the whole weight like in a dead lift, but a lateral pull.
I have used mine in this fashion pulling more weight. I have also done some recoveries where the wrecker was too far away.
I have a Hidden hitch winch set up that gets in stalled in to the hitch but need's to be attracted to the front of the truck so that the truck can power the winch
