Hello all.
I'm looking into getting a winch for my 4x4 dent project.
I'm thinking about getting a winch mount that you put into a receiver hitch.
I'm thinking about going that route to make it completely removable for in town as a daily driver so it doesn't disappear on me if you know what i mean.
I would like to have it able to mount in the front or rear of the truck. So i will need to fab up or buy(?) a "receiver hitch" for the front of the truck.
So my question is what would be the best way to get this done?
Does anyone have some pictures of the front mount? and i would like pictures of it on a dent frame please. i know i could probably google it and find pictures of all different trucks with it, but i want to see how it should be fab'ed onto a dent frame.
There are companies that sell front receiver hitches, might have to dig a little deeper to find one for a 73-79. You might ck into having a welding shop fab you one up.
I have seen them made up where the receiver square is right behind the license plate on the front end. Just mount a square tube between the front frame rails.
Keep in mind that you will need to route the power wires to a quick power plug, like used on tow trucks for jumper cables.
I made my own front bumper and incorporated a pull point/winch mount in it. I was able to buy just a female receiver hitch from my local fleet store(tractor supply might have them, i got mine from fleet farm. Not sure if you have those where you are). Heres a few pictures...
Sorry for the poor pictures, they were taken from my cell phone. What I ended up doing was boxing my frame with another piece of square tubing cut to the proper size and welded it on. I attached it with 4 grade 8 5/8" or 3/4" bolts(cant remember off hand.) I would HIGHLY recommend running as many supports and gussets you can. There's no such thing as being to strong
Nice, that's the kind of pictures i want to see. that one looks really nice and i may go that route with it as part of a front bumper, i would also like to see some that are somewhat "hidden"
Not mine, but here is what you are talking about as far as with the bumper. The bottom 2 pics incorporate a front spring drop lift and a receiver point.
That is perfect! thank you for posting, and finding the pictures everyone. i'd like to see more if anyone has some, but this has given me enough of an idea.
Here's my stuff. I have a thread on the front cross member build if you want to see that. All the pics are in the photobucket account though.
I set it up with anderson clips. I will have these wired to the front and read of the truck for quick power. I also have a set of jumper cables (not pictured) on a clip like this so I can use them from the front or rear...
Front cross member
Side note. You guys would cry if you saw the current pic I have of "red" (truck below). I only have the one Ed sent me on my phone or I'd share...
