Steak truck conversion project

Im looking at possibly swapping my 1994 7.3 turbo diesel engine into a 1978 gmc 7000 steak truck with a 427 gas engine. I am looking for opinions and advice before I go ahead with this project to make sure its worth while. I will be pulling a fair bit of weight most likely max of 30 000lbs. combined truck and trailer. Looking at transmission options, differential gearing, etc. What do you guys think?

well why don't you get something like a dt466 or something like that because you can get a little better options in the tranny dept etc

I want to get rid of the gas engine because of emission standards here in Ontario and my truck is rotted out and I would like to make use of the engine. The engine is where if put a lot if time and money in upgrades so I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

I would definitely go with something upgraded... you could always get a 6spd to go with this... I would also beef up the motor slightly... I know your going to have to do alot of fabbing for these to fit but if your up to the task than God-speed

that's a lot of weight.
make sure you have a CDL.
dunno about the trans, but id run the snot out of the E40D since you have it.when she blows, then swap in a 5 speed,or heck just get another one.
run something like 4.80 - 5.30 or something for gears.that truck probably already has some steep gears anyway.she'll haul her.

If your gonna go auto, I would go with the 545 or heavier. Yhese motors were in international medium duty rigs, so I am sure the bell adapter can be changed and some heavy trannys can be used.
