Try to make this short ... had up/low ball joints, new hub on one side and brake caliper replaced less than a year ago. Ever since have had a periodic issue of truck suddenly pulling left and then unsticking and pulling right because of pressure to hold truck in lane. Started doing this when wet ... first few times didn't pull but electric brake controller all of sudden showed activity like I had trailer hooked up but didn't. When pulling started, it seems to occur mostly when turning and braking at same time, then when you straighten out and begin to travel it starts the pulling. Usually stops once truck is stopped, then start moving again. ... I suspected other caliper bad since only changed one out. Lately has occured in dry conditions while turning/straightening and one time did not quit until I completely stopped and shut truck off. Is this a caliper issue, hose issue or maybe bad ABS sensor? Any help would be appreciated to narrow down. Thanks.
I just had similar problem turned out to be caliper. First check your rotor for abnormal looking wear compare brake pad dimensions from right to left side of vehicle. There were some issues with brake hoses inner linings separating causing problems. If you see no signs on the rotors or pads the hose would be my next change. But most likely you will find it to be a caliper issue.
I would check that the steering box isn't getting power assist when it shouldn't be.
Jack up the front end off the ground, start the engine, and cycle the steering back and forth, and at different points in the steering, stop turning and see if the wheels keep moving on their own.
Besides that, sounds like a caliper sticking, most likely the slide pins.
This problem reappeared last night, only worse. When it last happened we checked the steering cycle and did not seem to have an issue there. We replaced all new lines on front brakes and new calipers, the one that had been replaced was faulty and thought that it might have been problem. I drove my truck Sunday with no issues, but we had heavy rain overnight with big temp drop and truck sits out. Went to drive it and started pulling BOTH Left and Right like steering hanging up. I suspect the steering box is the cause or the steering shaft down link. Any ideas?
jmillwood ... thx for tip. When new calipers put on in May we made sure to use caliper pin lube heavily on both sides pins. So shouldn't be my problem, only have about 2000 miles on it since I had the last work done.
I know when I re-did mine, I had the same issue where 2 of the 4 new calipers still hung a little bit a few months after. They were new with new slide pins and it turned out they needed additional lube. It is also important to make sure it is the high-temp teflon grease that is used. It is easy go get at the pins I would pull them and inspect just to make sure.
