Hi guys i was wondering what i could do to make my 5.0 pull better and have a little more power. it's a 96 half ton it has duals with 1 cat removed. any thoughts would be great and if any of you guys can recomend a chip that would be nice
Hands Down Best Mods On My 1995 5.0 Are The MSD 6A Box & The Full K&N Intake With Tube. Shorty Headers Didnt Impress Me & Constantly Had To Be Retightened. I Have The Jet Chip For Our Trucks In Mine. Honestly Cant Say I Noticed Anything On The Butt Dyno. I Have 3:31 Gears & 154,000 & tryed nearly every mod (besides internal engine rebuild, & Re-Gearing) & Those Two Stood Out As Noticable. Hope That Helps?
There are alot of things you can do to the 5.0 without tearing into the motor . A few things are , long tube headers with a good free flowing exhaust , advance the timing a few degress , 1.7 ratio rocker arms , underdrive pulleys , gearing on the 5.0 is important , whats your gear ratio & tire size....Lew
The full KN intake is a waste of $. I had it and my truck ran worse and got worse fuel economy. Also the quality of it is lousy. It doesn't seal up at the throttle body. My friend's was this way as well.
Keep the stock air box and get the I6/460 tube. Also, just run a good OE style air filter.
Don't waste your money on TB spacers, or chips either.
A good free flowing exhuast will help some.
I will also say that gearing on the 5.0 is important. Mine came with 3.08 and I upgraded to 3.55 LS after I got my 31 10.50s, it sucked with 31s and 3.08 gears. I really think that 3.55 is a good gear for stock sized tires, but that 4.10 would be nice to have with the 31s I have now.
i have 285/75/16 's on mine w/ 16 " wheels wich hurts it but i have an exhaust no haders. i hav eliminated 1 cat but not both. also i'm not for sure on my axles will the tag inside the door tell you or not? And i've been wodering about he MSD kits i'll have to try them and see what it does.
It says they're over 12% bigger with a 33" overall diameter, that means you need 4.10 gears just to get back to the stock final drive ratio. This is the first thing you need to do, nothing else will make as big a difference as the appropriate gearing.
