I was saving up for some LT headers and see that everyone recommends the pacesetter brand. I see on here that the ceramic coating last longer, but i'm not sure how much longer and how much more durable they will be. At $464 i just want to make sure this is the best quality built header i can get. (for cheap-ER anyways)
There's no way they're stainless for $300, just painted and that stuff comes off the first time you fire the motor. Ceramic coated is much better and will easily outlast painted headers.. though stainless is better again.
Stainless= Best
Creamic coated = good
Mild steel painted= GARBAGE
If you use your truck in any type of weather AT ALL get the stainless
Or you could go this route http://www.landlproducts.com/details...16&ItemID=1098 not cheap by any means but they are the best out there. NO gaskets to blow out.1/2" thick flanges, tripple nickle plated INSIDE AND OUT. i have had a set on my 80 w a 429 for 12 years and have never had a problem

They aren't really too much more expensive than the darn ceramic coated ones. Was there any fitment issues with these? will they have the EGR bung and O2 in it already?

I do not know. Call their tech department and talk to them. But your O2 sensor should be in the Y pipe not the header
If your 89 takes the same header as my 94, then the pacesetter you want is part#70-2221. That has the egr bung in it. In my searches, its the only longtube that does.
Does all this talk about the finish and coating matter only in appearance or does it affect performance as well? Is heat transfer that much of a difference with the coatings and engine HP gains or losses?
In this case it's not about heat transfer.. though that is one of the claims for ceramic coatings, it's simply about extending the lift of the header since untreated headers don't last much more than a couple years in northern climates.
Conanski, is your comment due to the salt ya'll throw on the roads to melt that white stuff which falls from the sky? I am down in south Louisiana and if that is the case not much to worry about...the only time stuff like that gets salt is when someone backs down the ramp a little to much to launch their boat or jet ski, (don't let my good friend Glen read this post please...)
