i plan on rebuilding and going to a 390 but nothing wild. towing midrange power.
i have been reading alot of stuff on hear mainly in the fe forums, theres a book out there on how to do this by steve something rather can some tell me what its called and where to find it. i think i want to p&p the heads but this sounds tuff, but u all say its worth it. i allso plane on haedders. iwas thinking 260h cam kit and what ever piston would go with that. u guys know what ur talking about but confuses me. sellin my 94 ranger for a 1000 to get started.

so i finely got the engine out and its a 428 ,that makes me soooooo happy. looks like i dont need to worry about that 390 thing anymore.

How did you determine it's a 428? You cannot tell by lookng at it.
One way to know is by measuring the stroke, but that's not in-fallible.
Stroke: 352/360 = 3.50" / 390 = 3.78" / 410/428 = 3.98"

i cant even find a turd for $100. trust me i've looked.
i've been checking craigslist and ebay and american classifieds and anything within 150 miles of me for a truck for less than $1000 without much luck. i don't have a trailer so i don't wanna go farther than that.
maybe i should use the money to buy a trailer?
