Is there a filter that I can just install thats worthy and leave the K&N duct work?

possibly the 6637, is the k&n filter conneciton end 4"?

I stuck a 6637 over the K&N tube and clamped it down, works fine.

FWIW, I think it is just the drop in K & N filter that sucks...no pun intended. But you can't go wrong with a 6637.

So is the full K&N system ok and its just the drop in thats NG?

I believe so, the drop in doesn't fit the stock box well and particles make its way around the seal and dust the turbo.

no if i remember currently the drop is is better then the system.... BUT either way i would stay away from k&n

I had good luck with the FIPK K&N filter (replaces whole stock setup). They work if they are maintained properly. I would check the inside of the intake tube often and never could leave a mark. I just got lazy and decided to use the 6637 and a cover.
