OIL LEAK

I have an oil leak that looks like it is coming from the back of the engine topside. I was at the dealer today getting a recall taken care and they said they think it is coming from the heads. Is this possible or has anyone else seen this occur?

Very unlikely that it is coming from the heads. More possible that it is coming from the turbo/ pedestal o-rings or EBP rod, IMO.

Riffraff Diesel: O-rings

Just as clay said. Also could be coming from the front of the valley and dripping at the rear of the engine. HPOP leaking or high pressure oil line, that was the cause for my leak on my F450.

my first oil leak was a hpop gasket and it ended up in the valley. i also had a leak later from a turbo pedestal o ring but it would run down the front of the valley when parked on a hill. the best way i found to tell where it was coming from is to pressure wash the valley then run it for a few minutes to let it get warm. then park on a flat surface and come back and check. just my 2 cents

The high pressure oil galley plugs at the front and rear like to leak as well. Turbo pedestals don't leak very often on these. Usually a high pressure hose fitting in either the head or the pump, a pump mounting gasket, or high pressure oil rail plugs cause most of the leaks.

Sometimes a clogged air filter allows too much oil into the intake tract through the crankcase ventilation and drips out of the silicone hoses into the valley. Usually takes a little while before its noticed though.

Or its a fuel leak disguised as an oil leak. Fuel leaks are usually loose filter caps, filter drain **** o-rings, fuel line sleeve seals at driver's front/passenger's rear of heads, or the fuel heater through connector is overheated/melted and leaks fuel through connector or around it from the inside.

I think that covers everything that can and will leak on these.

There is also a fuel line clamp for the fuel supply line to the passenger side head fuel line that bolts to one of the intake manifold studs. (if you wanna call it an intake manifold). The clamp routes the fuel line towards the back of the passenger side head and sometimes the clamp doesn't get oriented correctly. Over time, the metal clamp wears through the fuel line and causes a small leak at first, then it gets bigger faster.

I'm with Clay on this one (go figure). Although the oil galley plug can be a possible leaker like adamtheman16 said, it is unlikely.

With oil noticeabley leaking from the rear on top, the first place I would look is the EBP rod and turbo pedestal.
