<!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> I just bought this 90 bronco.I has a 4 inch suspension lift with 33-12.50-15 tires.Seems to be a solid truck, but it wont start.I cant hear the fuel pump in the tank run.If I take the air intake hoses off and dump fuel in it the thing will run perfect until it runs out of fuel. The bronco has been sitting for 5 years. It was running when it was parked.Previous owner never had a problem.I replaced the relay's eec and fuel, any suggestions?Could it just go bad sitting there?I do know when I take off fuel line on input side of filter no fuel comes out with key in the on position.Just need a few recommendations before I go and shell out 150 for the pump. Thanks,I am ase certified but I also dont know everything. Thanks for any reply!!!
You can't hear the pump run? Does the relay click when the key is first turned on? If so you could have a wiring problem(bad ground or corroded connections)at the pump or a dead pump, you'll have to drop the tank enough to get at the electrical connection and test for power, and if you find 12v that means the pump is seized.
Before anything too fancy, get under the truck and hit the fuel tank (and i mean hit it) the pump might have seized for the lack of use... if that doesn't work, do as Conansky said, also check the Pigtail connector above the tank.
P.S.: Please share the year/engine/tranny info, that always helps at pinpointing some issues.
Thanks for the info. You are about the 10th person to tell me to hit the fuel tank to see if it will free up.I'm gonna go try it in a little while,i will let ya'll know if it worked. The relay does click.1990 ford bronco 5.8 liter, transmission is automatic not sure what kind, positive traction rearend from factory according to service history still in the truck.I do have one question, when I reply to your reply where do I go to do so ?I dont know if I am on the right reply button
Thanks for the info.I beat the hell out of the gas tank with rubber mallet, but it just ain't workin.I'm gonna get a pump friday and try it out.Cant wait to hit the deepest mud hole I can find!Talk to you later.!
As I understand it, the e40d got much better after the 94 recall. It likes the proper fluid level so check it. It also likes a good running engine for better shifts.
Will do. Can't wait to get this thing running.I already bought it and ain't been able to drive it.I bought it because it came from my uncle and I know how picky he was.I'm gonna try and get some pictures up soon to see if it was a good buy for 1500.00.
I won't give you my opinion of the E4OD but will warn you to keep a very watchful eye on it and do your best not to overheat it. (Keep your stop/turn/tail lamps working properly as well... long contrived story but relevant if you should ever have issues with the E4OD and have a burned out taillight).
Fuel pump might need a new connection to be wired in. See photos in My Garage. Dropping the tank is alot easier with an impact wrench. Metric sizes on the nuts and bolts. 15mm nut and a 13mm bolt head for the 8 bolts holding the tank/skid plate to the frame
