I've just bought and F350 and have 132k on my tranny. I'd like to change the fluid, so what's the best way? I've read about "flushing" the system - what is that and I do I ensure I've emptied most if not all the fluid? How much fluid does a 4x4 E4OD require? And lastly, will larger than stock (235/85/16) tires adversely affect the shift points or how the tranny operates? Thanks!
hey M-715.congrats on your recent purchase.hope you have pics to share with us soon!
i think in 93 the torque converter has a drain plug.however the newer trans don't and Mark shares how he flushes them completely.
since it's even easier,i followed the newer method, and didn't even bother to check if i could drain the TC the old way.
here ya go: Changing ATF Fluid in a E4OD and 4R100 transmission .: Articles
next,
it's important to note, the E40D transmission is controlled via a computer with sensors that sense rpm and speed,so if you want to change tire sizes, you should look up your tire for revs per mile and change your conversion constant,to recalibrate your speedo/odo
you can do this 6 times on your factory gauge.
here's more info and the link to it's guide is this this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ht=recalibrate
(read that whole thread.but post # 7 has the link to directions.)
good luck!
while your at it you may want to consider a drain plug/aftermarket cooler/and valve body shift kit.the shift kit is a PITA,just time consuming really, not that hard.you need to watch and be careful of small-no,tiny parts lol.but well worth doing while your in there.i used B&M's HD mode and totally love it.quick firm shifts.
with the shift kit be careful not to lose a check ball or put em in wrong place. I also have the bm shift kit and i love the feel for the shifts fast and firm.
