Old Warn Bellview
Old Warn Bellview
I came across this old winch the other day. I just bought a new trailer about a month ago, and I've been keeping an eye out for a winch. My dad discovered in conversation that my uncle had an old winch in a shed that had been sitting for years. My favorite things are free, so I retrieved it. After further research it seems as though this may have been a very early version of the first common electric winch. They are known for being fast with good strength. There are a few downsides when mounting these to vehicles though. The brake is not automatic like the second series, and it's cable actuated instead of solenoid operated. It is easily converted to solenoid operation, but the winch is only power out. Anywhoo, I spent the better part of a day disassembling and cleaning it. The motor was in like new condition, as well as the gears and the rest of the winch. Long story short, it works like new. I have a soft spot for tools and equipment that are old, and work like new. I'm going to mount it to my trailer for junk retrieval purposes. I realize this may not be the place to post this, but I just wanted to share.
