hey does anyone know if in 82 there was option on the 300 other than the 1 barrel carb, say mabe fords throughtl body injection (CFI, i think they called it). And does anyone know if something like that would make me fail emisions tests?
There were only 4 intake systems for the 300ci/4.9L from '80-96 (when it was discontinued ):
1) 1bbl carb '80-~'84
2) 1bbl carb with feedback solenoid operated by a computer similar to EEC ~'84-86
3) multiport EFI speed-density (MAP) '87-95
4) multiport EFI MAF '96
There is also the pricey route of aftermarket injection. A 4bbl aftermarket intake with an aftermarket TFI set up. It may run you at least a couple grand after you get the whole thing dialed in (with head machining, TFI stock exhaust manifolds and upgraded exhaust, and an aftermarket ignition system).
Steve's right about the intake sytems, there are no crossover years between carbed and FI'd systems. It is all or nothing.
As far as failing an emission test it depends on how the Spokane valley smog police does their tests. If any part of it's visual, you may have to provide certified proof that the system is smog legal (i.e. system is approved by the governing authority and has been installed by a certified mechanic). If it's only a sniffer, then you should pass as long as you have the truck tuned right.

Alright thanks, they dont do a visual inspection unless the vehicle fails then they look at it and if you dont have smog legal stuff on it then they ticket you.
Well i guess its time to call the ford wrecking yard for the EFI then.
