hi guys just asking how many miles to the gal you getting with your 5.4s im a new member here i have to say theres alot of very smart guys on here learnt alot so far thank you im running 37s with 3.73 gears 6" lift
thanks tony
I know a couple of guys with extended cab 4x4 with 5.4L engines and they get around 12 mpg on the highway and around 8-9 mpg towing. They both have 2 valve engines and are running 3.73 gears with stock tire size. From what I hear the 3 valve engines get a couple of more mpg highway and about 1 mpg better towing.
Mine's a 2V also and for my driving style and location, I typically get 13-15mpg. I keep a spreadsheet on it and my lifetime average is 13.95, with an all time high of 17.6 and a low of 10.3 mpg.
As for better mileage, I would think lower gears to match up with the big tires would be your best bet. Have you had the speedo recalibrated for the larger tires? If not, you're getting a little better mileage than you calculate because your odometer will be off (it will indicate fewer miles than you've actually traveled).
I think you missed something, I'm pretty sure those are the tires he is currently running
Gears will probably be your best bet to get better mileage and like StroppeBaja said your mileage is miscalculated if you havent recalibrated the speedo. If you havent a reading of 50mph means your going 55-60mph
thanks guys an yes im running 37s an my speedos set for 35s so im alittle close my mileage but i think i can do better im going to look into a programmer an see if that works ill let you know how i make out ...this site is great
Lower gears and a speedo recalibrate will do more for you in getting better mileage with those big tires. Then a programmer would be the third step for me. If you aren't running at least a 4.56 gear with those tires you are lugging the engine more than it likes and killing any fuel economy.
