18+ MPG?

I have always got 200 miles from full to the red zone on my gas gage till now. Now I get 230 and over and that translates to 18 MPG and up with city driving. The only things that are different that I can think of are that I changed my CPS in January and switched over to synthetic rotella in December. Back in late February I goofed and left the plug out of my HPOP and lost all of my oil and the only place open was a Mobile gas station and they had Mobile 5w40 synthetic so I had to use that. It was after the switch to the mobile when I started to notice the difference in mileage. Can the synthetic make that much of a change in mileage? Or is it something else that I am missing?

I've heard people talk about gains in fuel economy when switching to synthetic, but that's a pretty big jump. Did you change your driving style at all?

Synth oil can help... a few percent... but nowhere near the gain you got.

Most likely the bad sensor screwed up something else.

Could it be you also switched from winter to summer diesel?

That is about 10% right there.

I was thinking sensor too but I did not see any gains after replacing the CPS until I put the Mobil in. I was thinking I had a loose wire thats good now or something like that. And like I said before I never did see a diff between winter and summer fule around here.

Suppose you have a partially clogged oil system... and the injectors are just not getting all the oil pressure they need to fire properly.

You put in Mobile 1, which is like water... and guess what... even a dodgy oil pump (both low and high pressure) works on the thinner fluid.

That would explain it.

Or the cleaning done by the much better oil.

You might be onto somethig there. I have noticed the oil leaking out all over the place is now a lot more cleaner looking. So its cleaning things up and thiner to get to the injector past any crap. This is the stuff I have used. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...uck_5W-40.aspx

What size tank are you calculating that on. My truck has a 17 gallon tank both front and rear. At 230 miles per tank that translates to around 14.5 miles per gallon.

I think I have 20 Gallon tanks but I am going by how much I use. If I get to E and it takes 13 gallons to top it off at the pump than I know I used 13 gallons. And 13 is normally what I put in after I get to the red. 230/13=17.692
