I'm looking at maybe buying this f600 dump. Can you give me some opinions? It runs, shifts, and lifts. I have included the Serial number and other plate info. Besides the wheels, are there some serious issues that I need to be aware of. Also, is this a 254 OHV?
They changed some stuff in '56, so there's a lot I don't know on '53s, but there are some big truck guys here that could tell you anything about any year.
What where you looking to do with it? Use it how it is now for working or more of a daily driver?
I intend to use it infrequently. I need something to do hauling now and then.
It is on ebay for sale a few miles from my home. there is only 1 day left on the auction and the price is $355 as of right now. There is a reserve but I think they intend to sell it to the highest bidder regardless.
Its a cool truck that seems to be in pretty good condition given its age. It does have 58000 miles which seems a bit high given some other HD's I saw on this board. I would spend some time and money to fix it up if it isn't a huge money pit which is why I'd like some opinions.
It is not an OVH, rather a flat head.
If it runs, drives and stops safely I feel that the price is well within my ball park depending on your location.
Not a bad looking truck. I have bought 5-6 of these trucks and paid around 500-1000 for each one. I have 2 speed shifter parts and extra fenders if needed.
The engine looks to have been tuned up, and thats a interesting setup for the hydraulic pump. The flathead 6 is not a power house by any stretch, but should be reliable. Take a good look at the rims and tires. You can get alot of money tied up if it needs new tires, and if the truck has split rims(widow maker style) they should be replaced. Price is very fair for a running driving truck.
From what I can tell, that is a engine powered hydraulic pump, you can see the feed line coming from the tank mounted to the fire wall. You can see the lever attached to the front that runs into the cab used to engage the pump.

What are the pros and cons compared to a PTO run hoist?
