Where to buy?

Hi all, It's time to freshen up the X with ball joints, brakes and shocks. I was curious as to where you all have found the best prices? Also what brands I should use or stay away from?

Thanks in advance

From my research here is what I like as replacements.

Ball Joint: Moog seems to be popular but which ever one you get make sure they have zerks so that you can lube later.

Brakes: I like Hawk LTS. I have they on my X and they are great.

Shocks: Rancho or Bilstiens seem to be what most people are going with these days. I have to replace mine this summer and plan on going with Bilstien HD.

Shockwarehouse seems to have a good deal on breaks and shocks and I like RockAuto or Ed to get other parts from.

Hope this helps and good luck.

For ball joints make sure to get greasable ones. All three of mine have different brands and they all work fine as long as you can and do put great in them.

For shocks the only one that's gotten new shocks so far is the F250. Recall them being the basic Monroe but could be wrong. If money wasn't an object would go with the Rancho 9000 adjustables.

Put drilled and slotted rotors in the X at 180K and 35K miles later have a warped one already. More than likely it's the rear driver side which was caused by a froze up caliper. The rotors were bought on Ebay shipped all four for $282. I try to run ceramic pads or the ones just under sever duty because they dust up a lot and are noisy.

Other things to do if you haven't done so already,
03+ in dash cup holders (all three of mine have been swapped out) no more spilled drinks
03+ center mounted cup holders

If you have an Advance Auto Parts store close by, you can get all the Moog hardware (Ball joiints, tie rods, etc) you need WITH a lifetime warranty.

Brakes, I've used the best Wagner has to offer and haven't had any problems. Finally had two warped rotors upfront after 9 years and 250K, replaced those with the best O'reilly had to offer. Did the job November of last year and still no problems...can't beat that lifetime warranty.

Shocks: I think (not sure) that Autozone may be selling Bilstein shocks backed by a lifetime warranty. I was looking into some shocks since my original lift shocks are shot and Bilsteins came up with the lifetime warranty. I'll have to check back though...

More money than Moog but they are rebuildable and are vert stout. It's what I am looking at.

Even with a lifetime warranty unless you do it yourself there is still going to be a RR cost. JMO
