Well this is a new truck to me and my first Ford...let alone a 7.3 ltr. Anyways I was talking to another rig welder who has the same truck and he sold me a Hyper chip for my truck for a $100 bucks. My question is do I need to mod anything or will this be okay on a stock truck? I figured it was a good price so it was worth the gamble on buying it. The truck has some miles on it so I don't wanna sink alot of money into mods before I have made sure it is good all the way around first. Just thought it might help the old truck out with a lil pep it has lost.
I think the Hypertech programmer would help the truck some. You might think about changing the intake to a 6637 or AFE.Many here run the 6637.Gauges(pyro,boost,trans temp)should be in the near future so you can see what is going on.I would suggest a Tony Wildman actual chip that plugs into the PCM.This a ''switch on the fly'' chip. The Hypertech, you will have to re-program it everytime you want to change a setting.
Barry the bowshop here has bumper stickers that say"Bowhunter...I poke animals with sharp sticks!" Thought ya might like that .....anyways back on subject. How do ya program that thing because there was no owners manual in the box.
When you plug it into the service port it will boot up and read your vehicle. Then it will prompt you and you just follow the prompts.Very simple. The thing is,it is going to store all of the factory data into the handheld unit. This means that that handheld is married to your truck at that time because it has the particular truck in it.You CANNOT use it to program another truck.Once it has your trucks info in it then if you ever want to take it back to stock you will have to ''return to stock'' with the handheld to be able to install a different chip or programmer.I used to have one like that, just keep it handy if you ever need to return to stock or change settings........I hope it was returned to stock by whomever you got it from.If it still has their settings in it then it will not work on your truck.

Thta is a cool slogan, just may not set well with some of the animal rights folks.Texas folks may not pay much attention to it though.
Thank ya gents for the info! I will try and see what I can do later and pray that I don't ruin what is looking like a excelllent truck. Just two weeks in this truck and I am wondering why I have been buying goats for nearly twenty years

Goats are not bad trucks either.I have two of them as well.I prefer the 7.3 but the Cummins is easy to work on as well.I have not had any problem with the two I have but I am pretty **** about maintenance.
Well when I first started my love with the goats I was selling them when they went over 500000 miles on the 12 valves....and I loved em. My last ones from '01 to '07 have been LEMONS! I had to take the last dually to the shop 15 times in 3 yrs and not once was it covered under anything from the factory.....from broken swaybars to the tranny goin out. Who on earth has ever had a swaybar break in half goin down the highway with 68000 miles on the truck????? When I dropped 5 grand on the extended ripoff and it was always "not covered" that will make ya change brands.
You did have a streak of bad luck.I understand totally.I got away from buying ''new'' trucks several years ago.I just keep what I have and work on them.....What's the name there and where are you located??
I am an ole' tig welder but I get mostly ss,nickel, and other expensive metals.Never had to chase the gas/oil well pipes.
Name is John Menges from Liberty City,Tx.....and I started out working for JV, ST, and Piping Companies doin the tig thing. Then I just really got tired of travelling all the time so I got a rig truck to stay at the casa with ma and the kiddo's. Pipeline welding does get ya muddy all the time and it isn't near as "clean" as tig work but it sure is nice to sleep with mama most every night. Plus you don't have all the safety ****'s out on a pipeline and ya get to go Muddin at work so who can complain?
