Question STEERING PUMP

I have another question for steering pumps. My pump works just fine and dosent leak or anything but as i turn or the engine rpm speeds up or slows down the things squeals very loud and still works? its really anoying and im ready to rip it out and just drive without one at all until i can replace it.

thanks for any help

also were would i look at getting whips or 4 foot cb anttenas for my truck.... a semi truck stop maybe?

from what i can tell in all ways on all the vehicles ive owned, which is alot, that when you cut the steering wheel fully to 1 side or the other it will bog the engine down, my guess is that the pump is at full strain and hurting the rpms a little.. as far as the squeal i have no idea, possibly the best itself is all i can think if the pump itself is good, but i would take the belt off long enough to 'test' the bearing in it by 'shaking' the pulley and checking for excessive play, a bad bearing can cause squealing and eventual pump lock up

On some F series there is a switch that resides on the PS pump that signals the PCM computer to increase the engine speed when the pump is under load. I don't know how often this fails. It might cause your symptoms if it were acting intermittently. I do not know if your truck has one. My F150 does.

In some cars I've had the PS pump squeals and the engine bogs down as I reach the stop at either end of wheel steering wheel rotation.

Is it belt squeal? or the Ford trademarked power steering pump whine? That universally recognizable "Wahhhhhhhh" when the P/S pump is loaded up?

I did a Saginaw pump conversion it it doesnt make a sound and thats even with the added strain of Hydro-boost and bigger tires.

Its basically just the noise they make. I don't know of any solution to fix it. Even brand new pumps will do it.

x2 on the Ford pumps being noisy and the failure rate is high. The Saginaw conversion is easy and a must if using larger tires or plowing. Some Ford vans used the Sag if you want to do a JY conversion.
