Well, when I unplugged my truck this morning, the grille fell out in my hands.... Every screw broke out of it, so, it was toast...
I was going to wait until I got to the JY to get another 82-86 grille, but, I remembered that there were a couple 80-86 trucks sitting at a friend of mine's place. Out of 4 trucks, I only found one grille, and, it's a chrome 80 unit, so, no Ford emblem, but, I think it really cleans up the looks of the truck.

I'm thinking that you should put a 6" Ford blue oval on the front part of the hood, between the hood opening and where it bends to go back over the engine bay. It's right in front and it's original. It cleans it up nice, but I want everybody to know it's a FORD!
I like aftermarket I just bought a new stainless grill for my 86 F150 302 AOD extended cab long bed 6" lift 33" muds looks sharp. Email me if you would like to see pics of what yours would look like. Mine also is black!!
Throw on the letters, and it will look just like mine. Actually, the grill painted black, along with the bumper, adds this tough, brutal look to the front. Mine looks tougher with the grill painted black than it did with the old broken chrome one and brush guard.
Why make more work for yourself, leave the grill in place. I personally would not drill any holes and put the letters on because:
1. This creates a palce for water to sit and craete rust.
2. Hard to get them lined up to be at the correct place.
3. If someone does'nt know it is a FORD then well you know.
4. Who cares, as long as you think it looks good, who cares what anyone else thinks.
Nope, actually, that is a little premature. I have a 77 D44HD (I like the look of the outer hubs), that I made custom perches for, added a leaf from the rear spring pack to the front, and I am getting ready to drop it in after the weather warms up. Anybody want stock 250LD parts?
I'm going to a complete F350 D60 setup, gonna lose the negative arch springs and go with the 2" taller rear blocks for now(I intend to lose them completly when I lift it.) I have a 77 F150 D44, but, I didn't feel it was up to the task of puttin up with a 460.
Anyone want stock 250HD parts? LOL

Gotta keep the block heaters(dual 600 W, factory issue, core plug replacement style... LOL) plugged in so it'll crank over.... It's a wondrous -30 C out there this morning... If it wasn't plugged in, I'd need to hit it with both batterys just to crank it over... One night a couple weeks back, it hit -45 C with the windchill while I was at work, and, it was plugged into a dead plug... It was the same as if I had a dead battery..... Of course, being over on .AU, you probably don't see sub 10 degree temperatures, let alone ones that require a vehicle to be equipped with a block heater...

Jared, thanks for the idea -- my front bumper is blistered and rusty. my grille has turned gray. I won't replace them -- this truck is reliable transportation and hauler. Cost is just not worth it. It's like me: No one finds me pretty, but everyone finds me handy. Maybe I'll just paint my bumper and grille black (truck is wedgewood blue).
