I have a bad speed sensor on the front wheel and have new sensor to replace it. The ABS currently is inactive but the ABS trouble light is on. If the replacement sensor does not fix the problem is there a way to disengage the ABS so the light is not on? Maybe pulling a fuse? I need to get a state vehicle inspection soon.
I don't think you can do it that way, if you pull the fuse (#11 in dash fuse box) you will cut off power to several other important systems. I suppose you can try it, though.
I think the only other option would be to temporarily cut a wire at another location in the ABS lamp circuit. For example, there is a DG wire that runs from the lamp to the 4WABS module under the hood (connector pin #16). That would seem like a good candidate.
I installed the new sensor on the front wheel yesterday. I took it for a test drive and the ABS engaged at about the last 5-10' of a rolling stop. Previously it would engage at about the last 5mph. I suspected it was simply not getting a good enough signal. Today I went back at it and removed the sensor. With my dremel, I buffed good the sensor seating surface on the outer hub down to shiny metal. Cleaned out the sensor well very good also. Greased the well and the sensor and inserted it and got the hold down screw snug tight then tapped it very gently with a light weight hammer and felt it seat good. The test drive went great, all is as it should be. Finally got this item behind me after about 2 years tinkering with all the sensors.
