Intercooler Tube Issues...
I decided on the 6637 Mod on my 2000 F250 XLT 4x4 w/ the 7.3 and upon beginning the project, I decided to remove the intercooler piping so I can also do the foil delete and polish or paint them. Upon removal of the piping (which was a LOT easier than I thought!) I noticed that there is a coating of oil inside ?
I think this is normal, since reading up on the CCV Mod (which I believe I am going to do also, since I have everything taken apart). How much oil in the piping is normal ?
I can just imagine what the inside of the intercooler looks like... What's the best way to clean that crap out of there ?
What are the ramifications onf NOT cleaning out the intercooler ? Does it hurt performance ? Mileage ? Will that oil find its way out of the intercooler on its own after I do the CCV Mod ?
Lastly, the passenger side intercooler piping is showing wear...must have been rubbing against one of those corrugated wire-looms. Its not worn through, but I can see it wouldn't be long before it eventually did wear though. Its a good thing I took these things off to clean them up ! Last thing I want is for the piping to wear through when towing my 5th wheel...I have about 115K miles on the truck.
Any suggestions on what to use to reduce the friction to the piping ?
Sorry this was so long-winded...and I appreciate any and all of your input...
Thanks !
Scott
As for you wear on your pipe. If it's questionable, replace it. If you're handy brazing, you could attempt it but I wouldn't recommend it. Could cause more issues.
