I have my torsion bars cranked a little on my 01 5.4l 4x4. Sounds like the front is sqeaking alot, esp around turns when im going slow. Not so much when im going faster and turn, but around slower turns. Maybe my cv joints? Is there any way to lubricate these guys?
weird! mine just recently started doing the same. my bars are cranked a little too. it only started happening recently when ive been beating my truck. ive been taking it off road to get to trees. real bumpy rides and have been using the 4wd alot lately. it squeaks all the time now.
Yep one of the first signs of bad ball joints. Mine went a few years before I replaced them after I noticed the squeak. Of course the longer you wait the more they take out, mine got a hub bearing and 3 of the 4 ball joints.
Possibly, but i dont see how it would crack and pop around slow turns like it does. Maybe i forgot to add that. If it is, ill PB em up sometime soon and see if it helps.
my front end squeaks all the time and it drives me nuts!!!! i can just sit there and turn it, sitting still and it squeaks both ways, and it squeaks going over bumps. heck i can sit in it, shake the truck and make it sqeak. what gives? according to the previous owner, the ball joints should only have 10-15 thousand miles on them. the uppers on both sides are greasable and i have done that, so im sure its not those two. but the lower two, you cant grease, and they never had grease fittings. so i suspect those. maybe even my tie rods.. they are not greasable either. i want to drill these joints out and put in grease fittings, but im unsure of how to go at it. can anyone help? i would apriciate it greatly. I want to do the lower ball joints and if that doesnt get rid of it, i want to do the tie rods. (the joint that is about a foot before you get to the steering knuckle.) how do i go about the drilling? how far in do i need to go? where exactly should i drill at? would it be better to just replace the ball joints?
you need to change your ball joints..... you have a couple months before it breaks off like mine did!! I tried the lube thing it would last a week or so and back to sqeaking/ creeking. really not a bad job. takes some time but not bad to do. fors farmer i would guess someone has already changed the upppers but not the lowers?

im starting to think that, although all four were supposed to be knew when i got it las august... but im thinking for 24 bucks a peice from autozone, with a lifetime warranty, i may just replace the lowers anyway.
how bad are these to get in/ out? ive never had to before, and i dont want to remove the A arm to do it. will a BFH suit my needs for this project? (i know i know do a search... lol i will once im done typing this)
ok i did a search and found that i may also have a bad idler arm. . . i found one on autozone's website, but for the life of me, i cant figure out where the flip it goes on the truck. . . anyone know? lol i know i probably sound dumb right now, but thats ok.lol. gotta learn sometime right? if you had a picture that you could post, or knew where i could find one that would be great too!!!
well im guessing my truck needs them too...because it does everything yours does f150farmer.
so all in all, this month ill be buying new wheels, tires, studs, brakes, ball joints, PS pump, belt, and new shackles.
dang.... lol gotta love those high mileage vehicles... lol but from the sound of it your gonna have all the major things done before long and then you wont have to worry for a while.lol. just curious, what were you thinking for wheels? going after market or just newer/ stock like i did with mine?

aftermarket. i cant find the newer ones like yours for under $200 bucks a rim.
trierack has dick cepek rims for $99 on closeout. they dont look that bad either
also just another note, it could be something other then your ball joints. it could be any of the bushings on the front end, it could be a rear shackle with some mud in it or something else like that.
thanks 93, ill make sure to do some real trouble shooting before i start replacing stuff. lol.
and 99 a rim isnt too terrible as long as they look good. i bought the whole set for $125 bucks.lol i couldnt imagine paying 200 a peice. h#ll i sold the old ones from my truck for $150. you need to move where the parts are cheaper my friend! lol
