Does anyone know anything about converting the points to electronic ignition? a couple of friends told me that this would definately be the way to go. has anyone done this and if so where do i get the kit? truck is a 74 f250.....
I have installed a few in the past. I really like pertronics as it tucks away nicely and is really simple and performed well for me. I did one on a '67 Dodge truck with a 383.
I read that electronic ignition systems are better on your spark plugs also, they are suppose to last longer or something...
I like the Accel module...same as the Mallory, but a different color (and cheaper!) I've found them new on Ebay for $25 and been running one in my 70 Bronco for a long time.
(OK, the unit that came with my Bronco did fail once. Big back fire, barely ran but limped home...just bought a new module, dropped it in and didn't even have to set timing--runs flawlessly now. Cheap enough I could buy a spare to keep in the glove box.)
Installed one in a 67 Mustang and it was easy. Number is Accel 2020.
I know a guy who apparently used to work at a parts store. He said he would really recommend pertronix, but to be sure and get their coil too. He said he has seen many come back with problems if they didn't buy the coil, but if they did, he hasn't seen the first issue with them.
It's certainly on my list of upgrades as soon as I get some money.
