I stopped by a guy I know the other day that has an original 51 and 52 pick-up's. I was looking at the draglink and spindle arm when I noticed that both had a plate that covered the front of the frame from the radiator to the oil pan. It's my understanding this plate aids in the cooling process. So does anyone else have one? If you had one and removed it did you notice a change in the efficiency of the radiator? Since there has been so much discussion around cooling issues. I wonder what the impact of these missing plates really have on our cooling system.
I don't have any of that stuff! The hood cross piece, inner fenders, lower splash trays are all gone. And I don't have any cooling problems. And I have an engine oil cooler and transmission cooler sitting in front of my radiator!
I think the biggest secret is having a good and properly mounted fan shroud for cooling efficiency.

I was thinking that the plate would have some benfit for the flatheads not late model type engines.

51Panelman, do want to part with that plate?
I would, but I don't think that I have another one. I've been saving it for the 51, which has the flathead 8. However, if I find another one in my pile-o-parts, I'll let you know.
