Finally going IFS

Hey there,

So I've been saving up and am finally going to do my next phase of major work on "Jezebel" my 1955 F100. This includes ripping out all the wiring and installing a new updated wiring harness and going full IFS. That part I'm going to pay someone to do because I don't have the tools, time, or know how to take on a project like that. I'm 99% sure I'm going with the Volare set up since I've had that on a 56' of mine before and it rode really nice. I've gotten a few quotes and am curious if anyone has any referrals to other shops around So Cal. My lowest quote was for a Chevy clip but that doesn't sit well with me since they'd cut the front of the frame off basically. The volare seems like it fits right in there. Bobs in Riverside seems like they've got some good guys there and I've had a friend take a truck there too but they are a bit far. I've been scouring my old truck mags, looking online and talking to people and thought this would be my best bet!

Thanks for any info on other shops. I'm in Los Angeles btw, right in Hollyweird. =)

Hollywierd? You could ask Leno where he takes his stuff for mods. Just kidding, none of us would have the budget to play with that he has. You did say that you had saved your coins to get this job done? Leno probably has a 'staff' of engineers, technicians, mechanics, body specialists, etc. ready to take on whatever he wants to do. I don't imagine that Jay gets dirty on his project work very often. It sounds like you have solid ideas on the direction you want to go with your project. Good luck!

I really advise talking to "Bobco" in Lake Elsinore. They build some real quality trucks. At least you would have a price to compare to.

Brit_Wheels_Fan: I almost ran over Jay Leno one night with a friend of mine! He was in one of his steam engine cars and it was about 2am. He ran a red light and we almost hit him. He just honked and waved. I am still bitter he stole the Tonight Show from Conan but I have been near his private wherehouse/garage in Burbank. He has some awesome webcast stuff on his cars too.

B/B Ford: Thanks for the post I'll give them a ring today and see what they say. I remember them quoting me about $3500 once to completely rewire my truck so I hung up the thinking. I"ll never call these guys again. BUT that was a few years ago I'll see what they have to say.

Mason55: Yeah, that's who I have in the top running. Drive in and drive out cost with a full Volare setup and everything is slightly less then the figure above. I just need to get this truck safe and comfortable. It's my daily driver and the bumpiness is killing me. Makes ya feel like the truck is going to rattle apart.

Next big move after the suspension/wiring. Hmmm motor work or A/C. I'm thinking A/C since I'm in So Cal and last summer was miserable without it!

Check out the Crown Vic

iam planning on putting a 03-07 Crown Vic in my 57 panel. It is a bolt in deal, so time, tape measure, drill and you could save yourself some $$$.

Oh well……….. then in that case;

I’m sure that you have read this thread which details a swap into a 1967 F150 twin I beam truck that has a wide front tract/tread (using big time offset wheels), much wider then a Fridge or mid-fifties or bonus built series tread. ...................................(its too wide)

The jaguar swap seems pretty slick also. 2 notches and it's a bolt in.

jag do the jag..

Just an fyi I have a 53 f100 that I have been getting parts for and slowly planning the build. I was able to pick up a 86 XJ for 500. That gave me a lot of items for the truck. Full IFS, IRS power steering, four wheel disc brakes, Master cylinder and brake assembly and a host of other things. So 500 bones got me a Hell of a lot of items for my truck. Just saying...

I'm considering going IFS on my Truck . Would you mind sharing your estimates with me? I live on the other side of the Country from you. But I would like to get a ball park figure of what it cost. If you don't want to post it public for some reason I will include my email.
Thanks, Matt

capone 1680 thanks for asking. Some prices would be nice to either scare the crap out of me and say forget it or to start saving even more
