Back in 1991 i transferred from Charleston, SC to Middle Tennessee. The Navy would move my mobile home but now the steps or blocks.
I borrowed the truck and an 8'X20' flatbed that my dad had built and loaded it up for the move. My empty weight for truck and trailer was just over 9K. My loaded weight with both fuel tanks about 1/4 was 19980. I went through the gorge on I40 and I will say that the 6.9 did have a little trouble with those climbs. I pulled over and put the transfer case in 4low to be able to maintain about 30mph.

 

Just over 27K gross moving from Ohio to Texas. Was busted in KY and told to get out of the state.

from what i have read, and seen, these trucks as long as they are solid are only limited to your imagination. That load of hay with trailer i had on him with truck included was about 22k. Friggin worked for his diesel fuel that day hahaha.

How many bails was that? What's the empty weight of that trailer?

I loaded my truck up like that twice in it's life when we had a horse but am kicking myself to this day for NOT TAKING A PICTURE!!

But it would have been the iconic shot of hay heaped up above the cab and almost as high on a 20' flatbed behind it. I figured it wasn't that much weight. Maybe I was wrong. First time was with the bone stock C6/4.10 setup. Second time was with the 3.08s. Never did it with a turbo or the E4OD.....

With the 4.10s is hardly felt it but I kept the speed at 80 (KPH) the whole time.

I have to ask my sister how many bails there were. I hope she still remembers....

 

theres 27 bales in the truck, and 71 in the trailer. The empy weight of the trailer was about 6k. The bales were custom from a guy in cobble hill at 100pounds each. If they were 50 pounders i wouldnt even have noticed the load. The 4.10's are really a perk when hauling. Scary part....which i hate to admit....the trailers brakes were shot. but ponies gotta eat so I kept it nice and slow on the highway and left lots of lead time for the stop lights haha. Good thing in canada most lights have the warning flashers!

Although my trailer is a mere 1500lbs empty. No wonder it didn't feel it. I want to say 150 bails but that might be wrong. Probably wasn't a big deal though. 50 lbs each sounds about right since there's no way I could have thrown 100lbs.

 

yeah that trailer is a 4 horse angle haul and is solid steel, i told the wife, only alum trailers when we buy our new one haha.

 

Hauled this 99 Elcipse on my dads 18ft trailer, couldnt even tell it was there!! I did about 70mph on the highway for about an hour and still got 17mpg. But this truck regularly sees 20mpg and never less than 16mpg!



Also hauled this wood chipper, pretty damn heavy to tow! Its what started my clutch on its way out, taking off up the steep driveway a few times was enough for her. But it towed good.

 

them vermeer 12" are some heavy beasts.
Roy,when you have a heavy tow or load on her like that,and need to go up a steep drive,shift into 4lo (you can keep your hubs unlocked if you dont need 4wd.) this will save your clutch.

when i tow my 7410 JD cab tractor to JD for hydraulic work i'll take a pic of it on the gooseneck. with the cab 4wd and loader i think its right at 16k alone for the tractor. its gonna be slow goins for sure.

im not goin far or fast.

but i have pulled a one ton dodge diesel from the field to the shop with a chain and half way there thru the field i noticed it pulled hard got out and the ebrake was on the one ton. dodges have funny ebrakes, they go back to the top after pushing them down.....oh well.

the truck will pull anything i need to on a regular basis. if it gets too big i'll break out the pete with a 48' dropdeck

Had abuot 5 ricks of wood on the 91 i wrecked, it also towed my Audi in for repairs but very slowly uphill. Worst tow was my brothers tractor with my then 4-banger king cab Isuzu 4x4, about 15000 combined weight no trailer brakes. Young and stupid. lol.

I wish my 95 F250 was diesel it have 351W it got 9 mpg with 4.10 so I change to 3.55 now I get 15 mpg at 80 mph. Not bad for that 6K pound of brick.

That pallet with brick my friend say it estimated around 3-3,500 pounds. I can notice when I drive it was very HEAVY with 3.55 in axle.

 

I don't have any pictures, but, I used to haul an ASV RC100(10000 lb operating weight) on a 4500lb tag trailer with the 6.9 on a pretty regular basis, truck was around the 6200 mark with tools, fuel tank, etc most of the time. Even with 33's and 3.55's, it handled it pretty much fine. This load was what made us notice the gearing difference in the transmissions between my truck and my buddy's ex cab, same year, same gearing, but, his truck had the 4.02:1 first gear while mine has the 5.11, his truck you needed to take off in low range, mine handled it in first.
