351M/400 issue

Hi i am new to cars/trucks and i just purchased a 78 f150 4x4 with a 351M/400 and auto trans.there is 2 things ive noticed with the engine so far.the first is when started and ideling the engine will lose power and die. how would i be able to fix this? the second problem is there is a slight knocking noise coming from the engine (around valve covers it sounds like) after the engine is shut off. the knocking will last for 1-3 min. what would that be and how could you fix it? or is the engine even any good?

If this happens whem it's cold outside and the engine hasn't been running in at least a
few hours, then I suspect the automatic choke might need adjusting.

If you're hearing a slight ticking noise after the engine is shut off, this is likely just the
engine components cooling off

Everything sounds like normal maintenance or behavior at this point, nothing abnormal.
