Remove the "bag holder" panel under the cup holder (two screws). Then, look under the cup holder and you will see two additional screws that are securing the cup holder to the dash ... you may have to pull the cup holder out a bit to expose the screws. Remove these and it'll come right out.
Thanks. After much frustration over the past couple months this worked for my 07 as well. I had that bag hook off but had only stuck my hand up to feel for screws. Learned a lesson, 90% effort is sometimes not good enough.

I am trying to replace this assembly. I removed the two bolts inside the assembly (accessable when the cup holders are opened) but how do I unscrew the two reverse mounted screws , one at either side of the top ? Do I need to pull the supporting piece that holds this assembly and the ash tray also? If so how?
Guys and Gals. I dumbed onto this site after having the same problem trying to remove this. I can't thank you enough for the great tip and would like to add a few comments.
If I did this again I would unscrew the underneath screws first as you have to pull the tray all the way out to see them and get to them. After replacing I would do the screws on the outside first as that lines up the underneath holes perfectly
Also in my case all screws are 7mm and you will need an extension to get the underneath ones out.
Thanks again
