i need to make a decision, and every time i convince myself one way, i have second thoughts.
gonna overhaul the exhaust system next. option one is to take welk49's turnouts. option two is to straight-pipe her turbo-back at wholesale cost through a good friend. either way i will have access to a great workspace with lots of tools and plenty of help
so i guess if i went with stacks, i would still need to get a better downpipe...plus be ok with a big hole forever in the bed. i do have a toolbox that would have to sit behind the stacks...i also haul hay occasionally and tow the horse trailer (enclosed, with a dressing room in front) several times a year.
common sense is telling me stacks might not be the best choice...but i've also wanted turnouts ever since i got her nearly two years ago.
Personally I would straight pipe it and not do the stacks. I'm one of those guys that likes the "grapefruit" shooters out behind the rear wheels. Not a big fan of stacks, but thats my opinion, and I have nothing against them, nor people who have them. Just my $.02.
I'd do the turbo back straight pipe. you could go to the stacks later but not the other way around too easily. Would that be 4" pipe? That's what I did.
i have strait pipe all the way back to behind the tire, i like the sound. i do love how stacks look, but i dont think they are practical. having a tool box behind stacks was one of my reasons not to get them.
X10 on the straight pipe out the back. It will be plenty loud too. Most people I know that have stacks either switch back eventually or wish they could.
Besides with towing that trailer you really want the exhaust on the ground.
Ok, im not gonna give you my opinion either way but you said yourself in your original posting that you have wanted to put stacks on it since you bought it. Your toolbox will protect the stacks from the hay and if you keep the metal cutout from the hole you could always put it back in if you dont like the stacks. Just weld the piece back in place and paint it to prevent rust. But I wouldn't give up on something you've always wanted.
I can see what everyone else is saying about the ponies not liking you to much and all..... but I'm with James on this one. I kept my plug that I cut out of my bed because if I get rid of the stacks I will weld it up and have it line-x'd, simple as that. If it's something that you really want then you find ways around the not so good sides of it.
