Ok, I do not post very often, but my recent transaction with 5 Star Tuning had me looking for my login and password info
Before the Spring break I purchased the X3 tuner after reading all the good reports and having Mike from 5 Star respond very promptly to my emails. My X3 got shipped immediately, but did not reach me before I went away. I got back last Sunday and there was my X3, great packaging and very professional brochure and goodies inside.
That afternoon I was going through all my emails and firing off replies and sent one over to 5 Star that I had received the X3 and what my strategy was. Literally just over an hour later at 6pm on a holiday weekend, I received a response from Mike with my 3 custom tunes.
You do not get service like that these days and I must give a very big thanks to Mike.
I was looking to increase economy on my 08 V10 and made the error of loading the performance tune first....aarghh!!! I then loaded the economy tune which I will see how economy is after 2 tanks of gas then will do 2 tanks with performance tune...I really liked the performance tune
I will post updates as I have logged fuel performance from first tank so should give an accurate assessment.
Again, Mike and 5 Star Tuning, I would not even think of trying anyone but 5 Star.
2008 V10 with 325x65x18 tires and 2" lift. Otherwise all stock. 23k miles
First, I have documented all my fill ups so know exactly what my mpg has been from day one. With this setup I have I have averaged 9.5 - 10.5mpg per tank and a running avg of 9.9mpg.
I first ran 2 tanks with the 87 economy tune and saw an increase to 11.5 mpg about 9.5%, but no real significant power benefits, although truck was smoother to drive. Next I went with the 87 performance tune and Mike is right, overnight it feels like I have 2 extra cylinders and lost a thousand pounds or two. Fuel consumption went to a high of 13.2 mpg traveling highway at 70mph at 2,000rpm. I still had plenty of power if needed and could accelerate to 85 effortlessly with plenty more to go if I had wanted.
Overall I could have probably done an average 13mpg on the tank, but could not resist the around town acceleration testing and brought avg to 12.5mpg a whopping 19% gain in fuel economy and an unbelievably responsive truck.
I am just going to stick with 87 performance tune now as I have all the performance and fuel economy gains I could have wished for.
Mike is the best! a true customer service professional. I too am a salesman and I will tell everyone I know/meet/run into about Mike. Ford people, Chevy, Toyota and Dodge people. I dont even care if nthey care. I will be yapping about the miracle he has worked on my Ex and the ease and speed of getting the tuner to me.!!
We need to continue to support those who treat us well and support our interests (v10 Fords!!)
If I had 4 thumbs, 5 star would get all four. Intake manifold issue is 100% fixed. Better performance and better shifting. There was literally no issues with working with 5 star. FORD was incapable of fixing the intake, one told me it could be three years before the intake manifold becomes available, another dealer told me to trade the truck in because the replacement parts we failing as well and FORD has put a stop order on the part and they dont know if/when its going to be available. If it was available, you are looking at around 800 bucks just for the intake and then a couple grand for Ford to put it in. 5 star fixed my issue over the internet without me opening my hoodlatch for a fraction of what the Ford cost would have been.
