lost fire somewhere,but also.....
i am currently replacing motor in 84 van 1/2 ton (mark 111) 302 2bbl,duraspark II ignition(bought ignition rebuilt), new timing chain&gears, oil pump, water pump, trying to do it right (motor came out of a 83 LTD 302 stripped it down to long block status put everything off of van back on it)
set timing dropped in distributor, plugged everything in(i think)engine turns over but no fire to plugs have power to coil ,have power comming out of coil(checked with multimeter from coil wire to frame, key on ,have voltage) power going into distributor but wont hit plugs? it ran before is it possible that the distributor(the one that i bought)(the old one i turned in for core) and ignition module is not right for each other ? it all plugged in ok?i have cross referanced firing order etc. and am positive it is 302 motor
i figured once i got it cranked up then i can deal with the maze of vacum (see my first post)egr etc.etc.
also i've heard things about the tranny i have in it (automatic "metric "3 speed w/overdrive) something to the order of that by changing the motor that all of the linkage might not go back exactly like before and it will change the pressures and possibly burn the clutch plates in it? is that the passing linkage that i'm hearing about??can't i just not hook it up untill i have somebody that knows what they are doing have a look at it??or do i have to tow it to a tranny shop before i try to drive it ??
any help or imput will be deeply appreicated
I would make sure you had voltage to the ignition box. It would be handy to have another old ignition module laying around to try, or rob on off another car. If everything looks good, the only thing left is the pick-up in the distributor. The auto parts stores seem to be selling alot of junk lately.
With the key on, check the voltage drop from the negative battery terminal to the negative (switched) coil terminal. If this shows more than 1v, there is a bad ground in the distributor. Just run another ground frome the black wire on the dizzy to the battery negative terminal.

ok got the fire straightened out took the module off brought it to the parts place it checked out ok told them the problem decided to bring in the distributor in swap it,now the wires on the newer one matched the ones on the plugins whereas the first one did not also i noticed a blue dot on the side of the newer one, again the first one didn't so either the first one was either a dud or not the right one for the module i didn't know that the plugins were pretty much the same?
now that i got it cranked i can try and figure out some of this vacum stuff and give a try on the tranny adjustments.
THANKS GUYS FOR THE INFO & LINKS
i'll be back
