Hello all, I am so excited I go pick up my 66 F250 in a couple of weeks. I can't wait to get started. After reading some of the threads I feel like a kid on Chrismas Eve. My grandfather gave me his truck 15 years ago I drove it doing only small repairs (due to lack of funds) until 2001. I then parked it at my dad's house and he drove it around for a few years when I joined the military. The really sad part is around 2003 or 2004 he was moving so the truck was taken out to my Aunt's ranch to sit and rot. Now finally I am able to go get it and start fixing it up with my sons and my dad.
My question for all of you is what are some good web sites to pick up some parts. I know I need to do wiring after it sat in the field. I would also like to convert it to power steering, and disc brakes. I am not looking to keep it 100% original. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all very much ahead of time.
Welcome to FTE. You stopped into the right place. I have a 66 as well although it's a Merc and a F100
Some places I know about for parts are LMC, NPD and Denis Carpenter. Power steering and disc brakes can all be done with donor parts from later model trucks I believe. If you scroll through the threads in the 61-66 forum you should find all the info needed for those two projects.
Someone will chime in soon with a whole pile more info than I have provided. Just wait and see.
Dennis Carpenter, Flashback F100's and Carolina Classics are my vastly preferred sources.
Disc brakes and power steering have been covered on this site hundreds of times, literally. The search function here is actually one that works pretty well, unlike some sites.
First and Foremost, Welcome to the Family of Ford Truck Enthusiast!! Acquired a great number of items thru early morning salvage shopping sprees but it was sometime ago when these classic treasures were not so hard to come by. Another source is ebay and although I currently have no need to search for parts still receive ebay email alerts for 61-66 Ford pickups when certain items are put up for auction. Believe when it comes to the front disc upgrade you will need to look for 73-79 F250 donor, likely more knowledgeable member can better advise. Again, welcome to FTE and post pic's if and when you can.
